Biography

Photo of Fairfield Bay Conference Center

Welcome…

Bob-and-Wilba-pictureWe would like to take this time to say “welcome back” to the Conference Center at Fairfield Bay, Arkansas. Welcome back because so many of you remember Fairfield Bay fondly as the place of choice for meetings, family reunions, weddings and business conferences from 1978 to 2002. The Conference Center here in Fairfield Bay was proud to host Governors, Senators, even a former President. In the fall of 2002 the center was closed and stayed closed until it was donated by the owner to the city of Fairfield Bay in 2012.

In early 2012 the city received a grant to repair the Conference Center structure which was in dire need. The building set empty for over eleven years with the roof leaking and both the exterior and interior in bad disrepair. After receiving the grant, the work began and was completed by the end of October 2013. The funds received by the city from the grant were for the building only. The city of Fairfield Bay and Friends of the Bay gave of their time and money for all the needed interior furnishings and amenities, to date more than $100,000.00. We are proud to show you what we now have. State of the art sound and lighting in our main Conference Room and Performing Arts Theater. We have the latest in conference furnishings and technical equipment for class room, banquet, conference or business meetings. In addition we offer Fishing, Boating, Hiking, Biking Trails, Two Championship Golf Courses, a Tennis Center that has hosted NCAA Division One Playoff’s, four Swimming Pools, a full Marina, as well as a fully equipped Fitness Center with an Olympic Swimming Pool.

We are also home to The North Central Arkansas Art Gallery and The North Central Arkansas Foundation For Arts and Education.

If you have never experienced Fairfield Bay, we invite you to join us and find out what we know, “Someday Starts Today at Fairfield Bay”. Please enjoy our web site and just imagine what a wonderful and productive experience it will be to renew your mind and spirit here in Fairfield Bay.

Biography

Photo of Fairfield Bay Knights of Columbus

Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

Fairfield Bay’s Hippe Recycle and Education Center is open six days a week and manned by resident volunteers. Since 2007, local residents have recycled 2.7 million pounds of materials despite no curbside pick-up. And in 2013, with just a little grant money and a lot of volunteer effort, the city added an educational gazebo to its recycling center.

The Arkansas Recycling Coalition (ARC) held its annual awards presentation at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, Eureka Springs, AR, on September 30. The presentation took place during the Arkansas Recycling Coalition’s 24th Annual Conference & Trade Show. Each year this educational event attracts approximately 300 reduce, reuse, recycle, and sustainability professionals from around the state and nation.

The Fairfield Bay HIPPE Recycling Center, located in Fairfield Bay, was the recipient of ARC’s 2014 Recycling Education Program of the Year award. The Recycling Education Program of the Year award honors an agency that has made a significant contribution to the advancement of waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability in their community.

Owner Services

Welcome to the Fairfield Bay Community Club Owner Services Department. If you have questions regarding your membership, property, or fees, our owner services department would be more than happy to assist you.

Amenities & Departments

The Fairfield Bay Community Club is pleased to offer a wide variety of Recreational Opportunities to our members, please take a few minutes to browse through some of our amenities and visit their websites for additional information:

Fairfield Bay Tennis Center

In 2007, the Community Club began a 5 year program to reconstruct the Tennis Courts at the Fairfield Bay Tennis Center using state of the art materials and methods. This project along with replacement and improvements to lighting and landscaping will return the Fairfield Bay Tennis Center to the prominence it once held as the finest center for Tennis in the region.

Recreation Department

The Community Club has rebuilt the main pool at the Bay View Club with a fantastic children’s pool feature. Other major repairs and improvements have been made to the swimming pools at Mountain Ranch and Hamilton Cove. The Championship Miniature Golf Course has been a terrific addition.

We are working to develop a better network of hiking and biking trails in order to utilize one of the major resources, which is the natural beauty of the area.

Indian Hills Golf Course

In order to continue to offer world class golfing to our members, ongoing course maintenance remains a priority. Our future goals include the continuation of the resurfacing of all cart paths, and a plan is being developed to rebuild the greens and tee-boxes on a number of holes over the next few years.

In addition, we are again looking at the requirements to build a practice range with a practice green and bunker to supplement the current “hitting cages”. Ongoing maintenance of our golf course requires a significant and continued reinvestment in equipment.

Indian Hills Country Club

In 2009, there was a renovation and expansion of the kitchen area, adding more room for storage of equipment and tables and chairs. In addition, the Fairfield Room will also be remodeled and some structural changes made to the roof of the Country Club.

Fairfield Bay Marina

The Marina on Greers Ferry Lake has undergone a major renovation. Most boat slips have been replaced to conform with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requirements for proper flotation. The photo at right shows the construction in process, which has now been completed. Other changes will include removing some of the smaller uncovered, less desirable slips.

Public Works Department

We hope to continue to improve on our road maintenance program in the Bay. Over $300,000 is planned for replacement of vehicles and heavy equipment over the next few years. An example of this is the replacement of the road grader at a cost of $180,000.

Bay View Club & Cool Pool

The former Racquet Club has had extensive improvements in order to keep the facility operational.
